严恒斌博士上学期在英国兰卡斯特大学的语言与英文学院及计算与交流学院开展计算机语言学及计算机辅助语言学习研究。在语言与英文学院，他与语言测试组负责人之一的Luke Harding博士合作开展一个英语语音的计算机辅助互评项目。5月11日，他受Luke Harding博士邀请作了题为“计算机辅助英语语音互评”的报告，受到听众的广泛好评，包括著名的语言测试专家Charles Alderson教授和Tineke Brunfault博士。在计算与交流学院，严博士与计算机语料库研究中心的主任Paul Rayson博士合作良好，并参加了该中心举办的自然语言处理暑期班，与其他研究者共同合作，探索自然语言处理及语料库语言学的最新研究技术及应用。
Last semester, Dr. Yan Hengbin visitd Lancaster University in the United Kingdom as a visiting scholar. After his arrival in Lancaster, Dr. Yan actively collaborated with researchers in both the Department of Linguistics and English Language (LEL) and the School of Computing and Communications(SCC), as his main research areas, Computational Linguistics and Computer Assisted Language Learning, span two interdisciplinary fields: Linguistics and Computer Science. In LEL, he worked with Dr. Luke Harding, co-head of Language Testing Research Group (LTRG), on a project on computer assisted peer review of EFL pronunciation. On May 11th, 2017, Dr. Yan was invited by Dr. Luke to give a talk on his research project entitled “Computer Assisted Peer Assessment of EFL Pronunciation - a Preliminary Study”, jointly hosted by LTRG and the Phonetics Lab in LEL. The talk was warmly received by attendees of the talk, prominent among whom were Prof. Charles Alderson and Dr Tineke Brunfaut, both world renowned experts in the field of language testing, and Dr Sam Kirkham and Dr Claire Nance, experts in phonetics and phonology. In SCC, Dr. Yan had numerous fruitful interactions with Dr. Paul Rayson, head of University Centre for Computer Corpus Research on Language (UCREL), and attended the Natural Language Processing (NLP) Summer School hosted by Dr. Rayson, in which Dr. Yan studied and collaborated with talented scholars from all over the world to develop state-of-the-art applications in NLP and Corpus Linguistics.
